The Nurses and Midwives e-Cohort is a longitudinal population-based study which is funded by the Australian Research Council and a range of industry partners. The purpose of the study is to examine factors associated with both workforce and health outcomes in a cohort of nurses and midwives within Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

During 2006-2008 most nurses and midwives in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom were invited to participate in this longitudinal study. All undergraduate university pre-registration nursing students from Queensland and South Australia were also invited to participate. It is anticipated that the study will provide important information to inform education and workforce policy for the nursing and midwifery professions. Study outcomes will also focus on factors influencing the physical and mental health of nurses and midwives.
