CSimon Stewart

Simon is a Professor of Health Research in the School of Nursing, University of Queensland and holds the National Heart Foundation/Roche Chair of Cardiovascular Nursing and an NHMRC Career Development Award. Simon has led a series of randomised studies examining the utility of multidisciplinary, home-based management of chronic heart failure. He has been instrumental in translating the research into these programs of care into real-life clinical nursing practice internationally and throughout Australia. Simon has extensive research experience into nursing practice and large-scale epidemiological study designs, particularly in longitudinal cohort studies. In addition, Simon has conducted recent pilot research into the prevalence of musculo-skeletal disorders and work-based injuries within a cohort of undergraduate nursing students. The outcomes of this work and the comprehensive instrument developed will be used within the larger cohort of students and nurses being tracked in this project. Simon is currently editor of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. His research activities, which cover basic cardiovascular research to clinical trials of innovation care programs and epidemiological studies, have been continuously funded by the NH&MRC since 1996. Simon and his peers are already undertaking national and international research projects in addition to providing high quality research training to a new generation of cardiovascular nurses in Australia on a collaborative basis. Simon is also establishing research links in Soweto, in South Africa where there is an emerging cardiovascular disease issue.
